About Chockpoint.

A career inside transportation and logistics systems — and in the gaps between them.

Where this came from

Years inside the systems that run them.

Chockpoint comes out of years spent building and integrating transportation, logistics and supply chain applications — and, more instructively, finding the places where they hand over to a person and stop.

That software is rarely short of features. It is short of decisions. A transport system holds a plan, a warehouse system holds a state, and somebody in between works out what happens next and types it back in.

What this is

An initiative, and an open invitation.

If you run a gate, a yard or a planning desk, you know things about this problem that we do not. If you write software, there is a great deal here worth building.

What I think is true

Three things, and the third is the one that matters.

01

A decision that can be made from the data should not wait for a person to make it

That wait is the chokepoint.
02

Software that acts must record why

Or it cannot be trusted with anything that matters.
03

Some decisions a named human should own, and the system should refuse them

Rather than take them. This is the one most easily skipped, and the one operations people care about most.

Where it has got to. One closed loop is built and running against a live database, covering inbound logistics end to end. The rest is where the work is going, and we will always tell you which is which.

Know this problem? Build it with us.

If you run an operation where the work waits on a person it should not, or you want to build a piece of this, we would like to hear from you.
